Hi, my name is Ted Bartnik, I am 36 years old.
I 've always drawn, since childhood. With my parents, I came around a lot and very often you could find me in a corner, pencil in hand , drawing. At school, I drew in class and quickly discovered my love for art. Later, when the great wave of graffiti arrived in Germany, I was immediately fascinated. My first graffiti I did, in all illegality, with my Turkish friend, on a school wall. At that time we knew nothing about the art of graffiti.
A few months later, we had our tag and we continued our art. Two years later , we created a graffiti crew with two other colleagues.
Influenced by the film " Wild Style" we came together with our ghetto blasters to spray. I carried on like this, then I started to do graffitis on highways, trains... We went to jam sessions and meetings to meet new graffiti artists and share our techniques. We even went to the Czech Republic , just to spray and meet new artists...
In 2001, when my son was born, I finally stopped the illegal graffiti.
How did you advance to legal graffiti?
I started to make design work for private orders and then I established my own company GRAFFITI DESIGN in 2003. I was fortunate to get contracted everywhere in Germany but also abroad, including Mallorca, Portugal, Luxembourg or Poland...
How did you come to tattooing?
As I've drawn and sprayed for as long as I can remember, it was, like for many of my colleagues, a logical continuation. I already drew flashes for some parlors or I sold them on the internet. So it was just a new implementation form of my art.
I did my first trials 5-6 years ago and started tattooing professionally in a parlor 3-4 years ago. After attending a convention, which worked very well, I kept on participating on conventions.
Surf Ink Tattoo now exists for 3 years.
Why the name "Surf Ink Tattoo"?
At the start, I thought about "Ted's Tattoos" or "Taxi Tattoos", but I opted for the name "Surf Ink Tattoo", as I like surfing myself, I thought it would fit well.
What is your favorite style and why?
Even though I started with all styles of tattoo, just to improve my skills and learn the different techniques, I now prefer trash style, watercolor, trash polka and realistic. In graffiti, streetart and abstract style have always fascinated me. In tattoo, my style is sort of a combination of these. Watercolor simply comes from the drawing, I always loved to paint, so why not try applying this technique to the tattoo art as well.
What are your goals concerning the tattooing?
It would be cool to do a world tour with my tattoo machine, giving the opportunity to people to get inked by me, in order to bring forward and reveal my style.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Haha, good question ... I see myself in my little parlor, somewhere near the beach, where I can go surfing, and then from time to time make tattoo, to support my family.

Bonjour, présente-toi et raconte-nous comment tu as découvert ta passion pour le dessin et le graffiti…
Salut, je m’appelle Ted Bartnik, j’ai 36 ans.
J’ai toujours dessiné, depuis tout petit. Mes parents bougeaient beaucoup et on me retrouvait souvent dans un coin, crayon à la main, en train de dessiner. A l’école, je dessinais pendant les cours et j’ai vite découvert mon amour pour l’art.
Plus tard, lorsque la grande vague des graffitis est arrivée en Allemagne, j’en ai de suite été fasciné. Mon premier graffiti, je l’ai fait, en toute illégalité, avec mon ami turque, sur un mur de l’école. À ce moment on ignorait tout au sujet du graffiti.
Quelques mois plus tard, nous avions notre tag et nous avons continué notre art. Deux ans plus tard, nous avons créé une équipe de graffiti avec deux autres collègues.
Influencés par le film « Wild Style » nous nous donnions rendez-vous avec nos « ghetto blasters » pour faire du graffiti ensemble. Ça a continué ainsi, j’ai ensuite fait du graffiti sur les autoroutes, les trains… On allait à des jams et des meetings pour rencontrer de nouveaux graffeurs et échanger nos techniques. Nous sommes même allés jusqu’en République Tchèque, rien que pour graffer et rencontrer de nouveaux artistes…
En 2001, quand mon fils est venu au monde, j’ai définitivement arrêté le graffiti illégal.
Comment es-tu passé au graffiti légal?
J’ai commencé à faire des travaux de conception sur commande pour des personnes privées et j’ai ensuite créé ma firme DESIGN GRAFFITI en 2003. J’ai eu la chance d’avoir été contracté un peu partout en Allemagne, mais aussi à l’étranger, notamment à Majorque, au Portugal, au Luxembourg ou encore en Pologne…
Comment en es-tu venu au tattoo?
Comme j’ai toujours dessiné, puis fait du graffiti, c’était, comme pour beaucoup de mes collègues, une suite logique. Je dessinais déjà des flashs pour des studios ou je les vendais sur internet. Il s’agissait donc simplement d’une nouvelle mise en forme d’application de mon art.
J’ai fait mes premiers essais il y a 5-6 ans, pour commencer à tatouer professionnellement en studio il y a 3-4 ans. Après avoir participé à une convention, ce qui a très bien marché, j’ai enchaîné les conventions.
Surf Ink Tattoo existe à présent depuis 3 ans.
Pourquoi le nom « Surf Ink Tattoo » ?
Je voulais au début me nommer « Ted’s Tattoos » ou « Taxi Tattoos », mais j’ai opté pour le nom « Surf Ink », comme j’aime moi-même le surf, je trouvais que ça collait bien.
Quel est ton style de prédilection et pourquoi ?
Si j’ai commencé par tous les styles de tattoo, tout simplement afin de me perfectionner et d’apprendre les techniques différentes, je préfère, à présent, avant tout les styles trash, aquarelle, trash polka et
réaliste.
En graffiti, le streetart et le style abstrait m’ont toujours fasciné. En tattoo, mon style est en quelque sorte une combinaison de ces derniers. L’aquarelle vient tout simplement du dessin, j’ai toujours aimé en peindre, donc pourquoi ne pas essayer d’appliquer cette technique au tattoo également.
Quels sont tes objectifs dans le domaine du tattoo?
Ce serait cool de faire un tour du monde avec mon dermographe, de donner l’opportunité aux gens de les tatouer afin de faire mettre en avant et faire connaître mon style.
Où te vois-tu dans 10 ans?
Haha, bonne question… Je me vois dans mon petit studio quelque part près de la plage, où je pourrai aller faire du surf, et puis de temps à autre faire du tattoo, pour subvenir aux besoins de ma petite famille.

Ted Bartnik stellt sich in seiner Muttersprache selber vor:
Aloha…… Während meine Eltern in Nachbar Zimmer Feierten verbrachte ich als kleiner Junge viel Zeit alleine. Ich hatte ein paar Stifte und ein Blatt Papier zur Hand. In der Schulzeit interessierte mich nicht der Unterricht, sondern, das ich beim zeichnen nicht erwischt werde. Trotz dem habe ich die Schule mit einem guten Abschluss geschafft und war auf dem Wege in das Graffiti Leben einzusteigen. Irgendwo zwischen den Jahren, genoss ich meine Ausbildung zum Medienfotodesigner.
Nach endlosen Writing in der Graffiti Scene entdeckte ich die Kunst des Tätowierens. Seit 5 Jahren befasse ich mich mit der Tattookunst, ihrer Geschichte und der Entwicklung bis zur heutigen Zeit. Inspiriert von Werken bekannter Tättoowierkünstler begann ich, mich selbst kreativ zu entwickeln. Ich arbeite mit unterschiedlichen Tattoo-Stilen und setze verschiedene Techniken ein. So entstanden viele Tattooarbeiten, die Gefühle ausdrücken und Geschichten erzählen. Nach vielen Reisen eröffnete ich das Tattoo Studio Surf-Ink-Tattoo…. Wieso Surf Ink?...ist ja easy! ich surfe und tättoowier gerne…
letz endlich nicht wichtig ist was Du tust sondern wichtig ist das Du es Tust. Mit Fleiß und Herzblut….arbeite hart und die Arbeit wird Dich belohnen. Haang loose Ted Bartnik
